Al Ahly secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Ceramica Cleopatra, thanks to a dramatic late winner from Mohamed Magdy Afsha.
The Red Devils, who were looking to build on their win against Arab Contractors last week, were pushed all the way by a resolute Ceramica Cleopatra side.
Both teams displayed a cautious approach in the opening exchanges but Al Ahly started to assert their dominance, creating a couple of half-chances with Ceramica Cleopatra’s defence standing firm.
The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Al Ahly’s Yasser Ibrahim got on the end of a corner delivery at the near post to give his side the lead.

Ceramica Cleopatra, however, refused to roll over. They responded with renewed vigour, and their efforts were rewarded in the 58th minute when they restored parity.

A well-worked move culminated in an exceptional finish from Al Ahly loanee Ahmed Kendouci, who scored the leveller against his parent club in style.

The hosts were reduced to ten men in the 68th minute as Ragab Nabil was cautioned for the second time for a reckless challenge on Al Ahly’s Karim El-Debes.
The game entered a tense final phase, with both teams searching for the winner. Al Ahly, sensing the urgency, threw everything forward, bombarding the Ceramica Cleopatra defence with a barrage of attacks.
Their pressure paid dividends in stoppage time as Karim Fouad’s cross found Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s header that was placed beyond Mohamed Bassam’s reach for a dramatic 91st-minute winner.
