Ahmed Abdelkader is reportedly set to sign for Qatari outfit Al-Wakrah after falling down the pecking order at Al Ahly.
The 24-year-old winger managed just to play 248 minutes this season, and was left out of Al Ahly’s Club World Cup and Egypt Super Cup squads.
With head coach Marcel Koller opting to use the likes of Hussein El-Shahat, Karim Fouad, Percy Tau, Taher Mohamed, and Reda Slim in the winger position, Abdelkader’s days at the Red Castle are numbered.
And it looks like Al-Wakrah could be the player’s next destination as revealed by the Qatari publication Al-Watan on Monday.
The report revealed that Al-Wakrah are very close to sealing Abdelkader’s signature this winter on loan for the remainder of the season after Koller confirmed to the board of directors that the player is not in his plans for the near future.
Should a deal proceed, Abdelkader will reunite with former teammate Hamdi Fathi, who moved to Al-Wakrah last summer from Al Ahly for a deal worth €3 million.
Al-Wakrah currently sit second in the Qatar Stars League table, just four points behind league leaders Al-Sadd, and the signing of Abdelkader could mean a historic title push.
