Egypt’s legendary manager Hassan Shehata has called for the sacking of Rui Vitoria and named Hossam Hassan as a suitable replacement.
Egypt crashed out of the 2023 AFCON after losing to DR Congo on penalties to bring their campaign to a catastrophic end.
The Pharaohs qualified for the knockout stages after a series of 2-2 draws in Group B against Mozambique, Ghana, and Cape Verde respectively, before playing out another draw against DR Congo.
Overall, Rui Vitoria’s men couldn’t win a single game in Ivory Coast and returned to Egypt with four draws, which put the coach’s future in doubt.
Speaking on the Portuguese manager, three-time AFCON winner Shehata said: “Vitoria should not continue with Egypt because he has not done anything, in terms of coaching, he has not developed the defenders. He must leave.
“I am saying this not because I am a coach or desire anything. Egypt is one of the biggest countries in football, but with him, we haven’t seen anything.
“Vitoria’s replacement must be a national coach. Not because I want to take on the responsibility, but you must bring in a coach who knows his country’s players and knows how to deal with them.
“Any Egyptian coach can take charge of the national team. Hossam Hassan is a very big name.”
