An Everton fan has been banned for three years after hurling racist abuse at Mohamed Salah during a recent encounter with Liverpool.
The Reds had earned a 2-0 victory over 10-man Everton in the Merseyside derby back in October last year, thanks to a late brace from Salah.
During the game, Joel Barwise – a 26-year-old Everton fan – was spotted shouting abuse at Salah and making racist gestures.
After pleading guilty at the Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Barwise has been handed a three-year ban as well as a £500 fine for misconduct.
“Because I’m an idiot,” Barwise said when asked about his actions at Anfield.
