Zamalek edged past Pyramids in a penalty shootout after a thrilling 3-3 draw to qualify for the 2022-23 Egypt Cup final.
Pyramids had a flying start to the game and took the early lead in the fifth minute through summer-signing Fiston Mayele.
The White Knights responded with a flurry of attacks, testing the Pyramids defence with a series of well-worked moves but their persistence paid off in stoppage time of the second half.
Nabil Emad Dunga was at the right place to score against his former side with a bullet header to send the game to extra time.

With both sides looking fatigued, Pyramids took advantage of a lapse in concentration from Zamalek defenders with Mostafa Fathi pouncing on a loose ball to restore the lead.

However, Samson Akinyoola responded at the 101st-minute mark after combining with Youssef Obama to net a stunning equaliser.

Despite their efforts, Zamalek’s defensive frailties came back to haunt them again as Mohamed Hamdy struck past Mohamed Awad for their third goal of the evening in the second half of extra time.
Four minutes later, Zamalek’s resiliency was rewarded as Nasser Mansi’s thumping header brought back the score on level terms.
A back-and-fourth penalty shootout saw Zamalek prevail in the end as Mohamed Awad made amends after pulling off heroic saves to keep out attempts from Ahmed Samy and Mostafa Fathi to secure the victory.
