Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller believes Anthony Modeste needs time to adapt in the Egyptian Premier League.
Modeste arrived in Cairo during the summer on a free transfer, signing a one-year contract after a short spell at Borussia Dortmund.
The Frenchman, however, has had an underwhelming start at Al Ahly and only netted once so far this season in their victory over ENPPI in the Egypt Cup.
His performances have raised concerns as many believe Modeste hasn’t met expectations but Marcel Koller defended the 35-year-old following Al Ahly’s 2-1 win over Ceramica Cleopatra.
“Modeste needs time to adapt to our style of football,” Koller said in the post-match press conference. “We are doing our best to facilitate that process.
“He played the full 90 minutes in the last game and performed much better. He has a lot to offer but he needs to score goals to gain confidence.”
