Mohamed Salah reflected on Egypt’s thumping win over Djibouti and discussed the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Egypt earned a dominant 6-0 victory against Djibouti in their opening game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Thursday evening.
Salah produced a sensational four-goal haul before Mostafa Mohamed and Mahmoud Trezeguet added late goals to seal the win.
Speaking after the game, Salah explained the significance of the result and expressed his delight with his team’s performance.

“It’s an important victory for us,” the skipper told ONTime Sports. “I spoke to the players before the game about the importance of winning today.
“When a team does not qualify for the World Cup, it’s usually such games that can prove costly in the end.

“I think we were fully focused and played well after a tough start. We scored a lot and I’m happy about my goals as well.”
The Liverpool forward then went on to talk about the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will kick off in less than two months.
“I think we were unlucky in the last tournament,” Salah continued. “But we have a new manager now, we are on a good run of form, and I believe we have a good chance this time.”
