Al Ahly have earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra on Monday to reach the 2023 Egypt Super Cup final.
The Reds travelled to the United Arab Emirates after claiming third place at the FIFA Club World Cup following their 4-2 victory over Urawa Red Warriors.
Marcel Koller made just two changes to his lineup with Amr El-Sulya starting in midfield and Karim Fouad occupying the left wing.
Despite a good start, Al Ahly were handed a blow after 36 minutes as Mohamed El-Shenawy had to leave the pitch with an injury and was replaced by Mostafa Shobeir.
Ceramica had a number of promising chances and nearly scored first in the second half as Mohamed Toni’s effort hit the crossbar before the ball was cleared away from danger.
With no goals between both sides, the game looked to be heading to extra time until deep into injury time when Emam Ashour showed sublime skill to get past defenders and force an own goal from Justice Arthur.
The goal was enough to secure qualification for the finals as Al Ahly are now set to face Modern Future, who defeated Pyramids after a long penalty shootout.
