IK Sirius’ sporting director Jonathan Ederström has revealed there is a ‘great’ interest in Al Ahly’s target Wessam Abou Ali, but refused to comment on the Reds’ bid.
African champions Al Ahly are reportedly closing on the signing of Danish-Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali from Swedish outfit IK Sirius.
Al Ahly are very keen on signing Abou Ali due to the player’s Palestinian descent, which would allow him to be registered as a domestic player, as per the registration rules in Egypt.
However, IK Sirius’ sporting director Jonathan Ederström has refused to confirm the news but insisted that the player has attracted a lot of interest from several clubs.
“There is a great interest in Wessam and some other of our players. Essentially, it’s very exciting,” Ederström told Swedish publication Fotbolldirekt.
“We haven’t put a specific price tag on Ali. We have put ourselves in a good position where all the players involved in this case have long contracts, which means we control the situation.
“We are happy about that, and that’s how we have communicated.
“It’s a puzzle where everything is connected somewhere. If we lose players, we will naturally look at new players. It’s an ongoing process, but who, where, and how remains to be seen,” he added.
Wessam Abou Ali, 24, has a contract with IK Sirius until December 2027 and it’s expected Al Ahly will need to pay between $1.6 to 2 million dollars if they want to land his signature this winter.
