Egypt international and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has attracted interest from two Saudi clubs as his time with the Gunners is said to be coming to an end.
Elneny hasn’t been featuring regularly for Arsenal this season making just four appearances in all competitions while starting against PSV Eindhoven three weeks ago before sustaining an injury.
Despite making the bench for their most recent games against Fulham and West Ham, the former Basel man hasn’t had any minutes for Arsenal for nearly a month, with his last Premier League appearance coming in October.
As Mikel Arteta wants to reinforce his squad this winter, Arsenal might be looking to sell their fringe player to ensure they comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
Mohamed Elneny alongside Cedric Soares and Nuno Tavares are all the subject of transfer interest in January, but it’s the Egyptian who attracted the most interest.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that Elneny attracted concrete interest from former club Besiktas and their league rivals Trabzonspor as well as several other clubs from Saudi Arabia.
The Standard went on to name these two Saudi clubs in Al-Fateh and Al-Shabab but added that both clubs may wait until the summer when Elneny is available for free.
Al-Fateh are having an exceptional season, sitting sixth on the league table, and is coached by former West Ham, West Brom, and Watford boss Slaven Bilic.
Meanwhile, Al-Shabab have been struggling and are heavily linked with a winter move for Elneny’s national teammate Ahmed Sayed Zizo.
Elneny’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, having been playing for the club since January 2016, which makes him the club’s current longest-serving player.
