Pyramids FC midfielder Mohanad Lasheen has been called up to replace Ahmed Nabil Kouka in Egypt’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kouka was included in Egypt’s AFCON squad despite not being capped following impressive performances for Al Ahly in the Club World Cup and the Egypt Super Cup.
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, he won’t be able to take part in the AFCON after the EFA revealed he has picked up a foot injury and the player will now return to Al Ahly to continue his rehabilitation.
As his replacement, Rui Vitoria has decided to call up Pyramids FC’s Mohanad Lasheen, who has ten caps to his name and was part of the squad that reached the final of the previous edition.
This season, Lasheen has made 15 appearances for Pyramids FC, starting regularly for the team across the CAF Champions League and the domestic competitions.
Lasheen was called up ahead of the likes of Ipswich Town skipper Sam Morsy, Al Ahly’s Akram Tawfik, and Nabil Dunga of Zamalek.
