Egypt have defeated Tanzania 2-0 in a friendly game ahead of their trip to Ivory Coast for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Pharaohs are set to begin their AFCON campaign with a clash against Mozambique in the competition’s Group E on Sunday, January 14th.
But just days before travelling, Egypt hosted Tanzania at the Cairo International Stadium and showed signs of promise in a relatively comfortable victory.
Mohamed Salah had a good chance to fire the home side into the lead but his volleyed strike went inches wide after three minutes.

In the 32nd minute, Egypt found the breakthrough from a quick move that saw Salah feed ex-Aston Villa winger Mahmoud Trezeguet before the latter calmly finished to give his side the advantage.
A thumping strike from Marwan Ateya nearly doubled Egypt’s lead but Tanzania goalkeeper Aishi Manula tipped the ball into the bar before the end of the first half.
Despite not getting minutes in the last international break, Emam Ashour stepped up for Egypt after the break and earned his side a penalty late in the game.
Salah headed to the spot and converted successfully to score their second of the evening to put the game to bed with just over 15 minutes remaining.
