Egypt’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group opponents Ghana and Mozambique fell to draws in their last preparation games ahead of the final tournament.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Ivory Coast next Saturday, January 13, and runs until February 11, 2024.
The Pharaohs were drawn in Group B along with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, and open their campaign against the latter on January 14.
In their last friendly before travelling to Ivory Coast, the Black Stars were held to a 0-0 draw by Namibia, with the likes of Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, and Daniel Amartey all starting for Ghana.
Ghana XI: Richard Ofori, Dennis Odoi, Gideon Mensah, Alexander Djiku, Daniel Amartey , Iddrisu Baba Elisha Owusu, Joseph Paintsil, Ransford Y. Konigsdorffer, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams.
Throughout the game, Ghana boss Chris Hughton brought on several key players, most notably Mohammed Salisu, Andre Ayew, and Ernest Nuamah.
Meanwhile, Mozambique, who will Egypt face in their opening game, Mozambique snatched a 95th-minute equaliser against Botswana in their last test.
Kabelo Seakanyeng gave Botswana the lead in the 39th minute, before Alfons Amade’s late equaliser ensured both teams shared the spoils.
