Morocco have earned a convincing 3-0 victory over Tanzania in their opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Wednesday.
Head coach Walid Regragui fielded a strong lineup led by Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nesyri, Azzedine Ounahi, and Yassine Bounou.
Former Wolves defender Romain Saiss fired Morocco into the lead after 30 minutes tapping home the rebound from Hakim Ziyech’s free-kick effort.
The second half saw Morocco create more chances as En-Nesyri almost doubled their advantage in the 51st minute but failed to get a touch on Ounahi’s cross.
Tanzania were reduced to ten men 11 minutes later when Novatus Miroshi received his second caution for a reckless challenge, giving the referee no choice but to send him off.
Morocco established a two-goal cushion late in the game as Ounahi combined with Bayer Leverksuen’s Amine Adli before slotting the ball into the back of the net for his side’s second of the night.
Just seconds later, it was time for En-Nesyri to get on the scoresheet as the Sevilla centre-forward converted Hakimi’s cross to seal a comfortable victory and three points for Morocco.
