The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy has blamed the EFA for handling Mohamed Salah’s injury, saying that Liverpool embarrassed them.
The Liverpool superstar decided to depart the AFCON camp after suffering a hamstring injury against Ghana to continue his rehab at Liverpool.
The decision of the player along with the statements of Jurgen Klopp were not well-received by fans and pundits who believe that Salah, as the national team captain, should remain in Ivory Coast to support his teammates.
This is mainly due to the EFA initially stating that Salah would miss just two games, before agreeing with Liverpool and Salah’s decision to do rehab in England and not Ivory Coast.
Speaking on the matter, Sobhy said: “There was a slight mistake by the EFA in the crisis of Mohamed Salah’s injury. The Egyptian Football Association is responsible for announcing the matter and revealing the truth.

“The capabilities are there in Ivory Coast, and the national team’s doctor is at the highest level, but to shorten his absence period, we can allow him to travel and return again.
“The situation here is different from the case of the Moroccan national team (referring to Noussair Mazraoui’s injury) because it happened before the tournament.
“So there had to be complete transparency, and this is what happened when Mohamed El-Shenawy was injured, However, the agreement with Liverpool caused an embarrassment to the EFA.
“As for the national team’s doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela, he is a professional man. When the youth national team in Tunisia was infected with COVID-19, we sent him there, and he saved the situation.”
