Egypt international Mahmoud Trezeguet has scored a late winner to secure Trabzonspor a spot in the quarter-finals of the Turkish Cup.
In a thrilling encounter, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet led Trabzonspor to a hard-fought victory over Gençlerbirliği in the round of 16 of the Turkish Cup.
The Egyptian scored the winning goal in the extra-time, exactly in the 105th minute, sending Trabzonspor to the next stage of the competition.
Trabzonspor had fallen behind early in the game due to a superb individual effort by Melih Bostan in the 14th minute.
The hosts thought they secured the win; however, new arrival from Dortmund Thomas Meunier played in a perfect cross for Eren Elmalı to score a 96th-minute equaliser and take the game into extra-time.
Once again Trabzonspor waited until the dying moments of the first half of extra-time to take the lead through Mahmoud Trezeguet, who capitalized on a precise pass from Edin Višća.
The goal is Trezeguet’s fifth of the season in 15 games, which also saw him provide two assists for the Karadeniz Fırtınası.
After an instrumental performance, Trezeguet left the field to make way for Croatian defender Filip Benković in the 116th minute.
With this win, Trezeguet and his teammates await the quarter-final draw as they aim for Turkish Cup glory.
