The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) announced the permanent appointment of Emerse Fae as the head coach of the Ivory Coast national team.
The Ivorian Federation had dismissed Jean Louis Gasset following the group stage, allowing Emerse Fae to take charge of the Elephants for the remaining matches.
Yacine Diallo, the president of the FIF, stated that it had been decided for Fae to permanently lead the Ivory Coast national team instead of in an interim capacity.
The Ivory Coast national team clinched the AFCON title for the third time in its history, after defeating Nigeria (2-1) in the final match, which took place on February 11th.
Ivory Coast was on the verge of exiting the tournament in the group stage before qualifying ahead of Zambia on goal difference, ultimately winning the title.
Fae, after winning the title earlier, said: “I still can’t believe it. We went through all the emotions. Winning the title is definitely one of the most important moments in my life.
“I took over the leadership of the team on my birthday, we weren’t even qualified for the round of 16. Nevertheless, I would like to salute and thank coach Jean Louis Gasset.”
Emerse Fae won the Best Coach award in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, even though he wasn’t the head coach at the beginning of the tournament.
