The Qatar Football Association (QFA) have announced the sacking of Carlos Queiroz just days before the 2024 AFC Asian Cup.
Queiroz took charge of Qatar earlier in February this year and has led the team to a series of poor results during his run.
With two draws and five defeats in 12 games, Qatar decided to dismiss the Portuguese manager just over a month before the Asian Cup kicks off and announced his replacement.
“The Qatar Football Association announces the end of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz’s tenure as head coach of the Qatar national team by mutual agreement between the two parties,” the QFA said in a statement.
“We express our sincere gratitude to Queiroz for his dedication, leadership, and contributions during his tenure as the head coach of the national team. We wish him success in his future endeavours,” they added.
Spanish manager Tintin Marquez Lopez is now set to take over the national team after leaving Hamdy Fathi’s Al-Wakrah fourth in the Qatar Stars League.
