Ittihad Jeddah have registered Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi in their squad, putting an end to the English rumours.
Hegazi played a key role in guiding the Tigers to the Saudi Pro League title last season; however, he was forced to miss the first half of this season after tearing his ACL.
With the club struggling midway through the season, finding themselves seventh, 12 points away from the Asian spots, head coach Marcelo Gallardo has been given a massive boost with the recovery of Hegazi and decided to register him in his squad for the remainder of the season.
According to Saudi publication SportsKSA, Hegazi was informed of the decision as the club hopes he will be the solution to the defensive problems, having conceded 26 goals in 18 league games this season.
The decision comes after reports emerged linking Hegazi with a return to the Premier League as both Sheffield United and Vincent Kompany’s Burnley were keen on bringing the former WBA defender.
EFL Championship outfits Middlesbrough and Cardiff as well as Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic were also reportedly among interested suitors.
Hegazi is currently with the Egyptian national team and is expected to start for the Pharaohs as they take part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
